History
First opened in 1973, the property was known as the Kitano Hotel. It
reopened in September 1995, as The Kitano New York, following a three-and-half
year reconstruction of all guestrooms and public spaces, completed at
a cost of over $55 million. Two adjacent buildings on Park Avenue were
purchased and incorporated into the new building. An adjacent brownstone
on East 38th, was renovated and now houses three suites and the hotel's
Garden Cafe.
